All done welding on the frame for now.
Time to get a coat of paint on it. Now if I had the time or money, mostly money, I would of totally stripped down the frame and either powder-coated it or used a high quality frame paint.
Took a couple of tries to get the paint job right. I used a high quality latex first try. Same stuff I used on a utility trailer and it lasted great on that. Unfortunately when I used it on this frame it rained the next day and washed it all off. So I ran down to Lowes and got two quarts of the Professional grade Rustoium. It came out beautyful.
I stripped out everything in the cab and removed the wiring harness.
Removed all the rain rails and back trim.
Removed everything from the firewall. I plan on filling holes I no longer use and grinding off studs.
Today was nice outside and I still had my buddy's plasma cutter, so I thought I would fit up my roll pan I got from Mar-K out of OK city.
I don't like drilling so I thought I would just weld it on. Takes a lot longer but I think it will look good in the end.
You can see here I have spaced out my tacks.
Then I slowly filled in between all the tack welds.
Eventually I had a full line.
I ran out of Co2/Ar gas with only 6 ins to go. I switched back out to my gasless flux wire. It seemed to make a flatter cleaner welds. Mainly because it burns hotter and seems to penetrate better.
I grinded down all the welds and went back and filled in any holes.
Still got a little filling in to do. Doesn't have to be perfect the body filler and highbuild primer I will use will fill any small imperfections.
While I was here with the grinder and the welder I filled in a couple holes where the old tail lights mounted.
I decided since I had the piece I cut out for the roll pan I might as well use it to box in my bed rails.
Would you believe I ran out of flux wire right in the middle of trying to finish these. Guess I am stuck till payday.
I installed my new tailgate from Mar-K today.
Was pretty simple. Had to go buy a step reamer but it was just a matter of drilling a couple holes and bolting it all in.
I went with the hidden latch upgrade.
And the link bars upgrade.
Filled a couple holes on top the bed rails while I was suited up.
There you have it. New tailgate and roll pan installed.
