Time to start tearing the front end apart.
Got held up by weather for a bit.
Would you believe? Snow in middle Georgia!
Kinda cold for middle Georgia. Won't get back to work till probably March.
Here it is. Sunny March. I have started painting my front end.
I am doing this in stages. I can only lift one end of the frame at a time.
So I started with the front end. I totally rebuild all the suspension. New 3 inch drop springs. 2.5 inch modular drop spindles. The modular style are exclusive to CPP. They are the only ones that don't push the wheels out that .75 inch. Also they can accept stock and aftermarket brakes systems.
Here it is. the front end is all assembled and painted.
Once I get the full load of the truck back on it, I calculate a 4.5 to 5 inch drop in the front from stock.
Cut the rivets off on the front of the leaf spring mount.
Started mocking up the new links.
Welded on the front mount. My little mig welder doesn't like using the gas and solid wire on this thick of metal.
I switched to the flux cord and a little thicker wire on this side. Came out a lot nicer for a rookie welder like me.
Finished cutting all the old springs off. Also drained and un-mounted my fuel cell.
Had to go buy an electric grinder so i could cut all this old stuff off the axel.
Got everything cut off and ready to start lining things up.
First I'll sand blast the rear end clean before I mock it up and establish my 2 deg pinion angle.
Finished blasting the housing and started measuring and mocking up the 4 link mounts.
Next I mocked up the Pan hard bar and welded it in.
Top side of the pan hard bar.
Next I welded on the coil-over mounts.
Here they are.
I only tack welded the top mounts in place because I still need to cut a C-notch in the frame and the top shock mounts are going to interfere with that.
Nothing left but the C-notches but I have a rolling chassis again.
